For network segments that do not need the benefit of Layer 3 switching at the edge, and whose applications do not demand a higher level of redundancy than provided by Spanning Tree Protocol, the Summit 24e2 is a Layer 2 switch with a reasonable subset of Extreme features to support this environment. The Summit 13231 enables end-to-end Extreme networking.
