Its the Summit Virtual Chassis an ultra-high performance external back plane that connects up to eight stacked or distributed Extreme switches into one cohesive system.

The revolutionary Summit Virtual Chassis combines the flexibility and low entry-cost of a stackable with the fault tolerance and high port-density of a chassis. Utilizing eight SummitLink backplane channels per device the Summit Virtual Chassis can be stacked to support between 16 and 64 Gbps of switch fabric capacity. As a result a Summit Virtual Chassis stack can support switch configurations with up to 32 full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet ports or 384 full-duplex auto-negotiating 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports.
