 Cisco Optical Specialist CertificationThe Cisco Optical Specialist certification is for network professionals who design, install, operate, and maintain optical network systems. The Cisco Optical Specialist exam material features two unique paths: one focused on SONET technology and one focused on SDH. Both paths are designed for service providers and enterprise environments. A professional who attains the Cisco Optical Specialist certification will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to perform basic troubleshooting using the ONS 15454, extend distances using the ONS 15216 product family, and demonstrate significant and specialized knowledge of Cisco fiber optic principles and DWDM transmission. There are no prerequisites required for this certification. However, you must pass 1 of the following exams: 642-311 Optical SONET or 642-321 Optical SDH exam. Cisco Optical Specialist certifications are valid for 2 years. Recertification requires passing the current version of the exam or passing a CCIE written exam.
