The Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching exam 350-001 covers networking theory related to topics such as IP, IP routing, non-IP desktop protocols, bridging and switch-related technologies, and includes some equipment commands. The 350-001 exam is closed book and no outside reference materials are allowed. All these objectives are designated from the Cisco.com website. There are two certification exams required to achieve the CCIE status: CCIE Lab and CCIE Written (Prequalification).
The 350-001 CCIE Written exam can be taken at any Authorized Prometric Testing Center (APTC) like other CCNA or CCNP exams. However, the CCIE Lab exam can only be taken at few Cisco offices around the world. The CCIE lab exam is proctored and graded by a Cisco staff expert. It basically test everything that can be configured on Cisco switches and routers. Current IOS version used in the lab exam is 12.1 and can change at any time to suit Cisco requirements.
