Information on Router Memory:
To achieve a different balance between speed, memory size and cost, some implementations emulate the function of memory by implementing standard tree search or hashing designs in hardware, replication or pipelining to speed up effective performance. These designs are often used in routers.
Unlike standard computer memory in which the user supplies a memory address and the RAM returns the data word stored at that address, router memory is designed such that the user supplies a data word and searches its entire memory to see if that data word is stored anywhere in it. Thus, router memory is the hardware embodiment of what in software terms would be called an associative array.
Most networks require certain types of router memory with a vast degree of desired specifications. One of our friendly IT professionals will be more than happy to help you figure out which router will best fit your needs. |
