Technology changes everyday. It's important to keep up with the area of expertise you are currently in or would like to be in. Certifications are certainly important in showing your employer that "this" is your specialty and you know what your talking about. Sometimes, a nice collection of certifications in your field can weigh more that a degree from a tech school. Of coarse this is opinion based, but through experience we certainly have seen this before. Obtaining a certification is not the easiest task since most certification exams will not be the exact questions you may find on a practice test. Although, there are some brain dumps out there that claim they do, its best to avoid those sites. It's better to learn and take in on the subject at hand than to get a certification, claim you know what your talking about, and finally land the job but don't have a clue in what you need to do.
